Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, according to American standards, in the class of child prodigies. The traits she displayed were normal for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by gifted parents and a loving, supportive family. Maureen entered the safe haven of her parents on August 17, 1920 in Ranelagh (a suburb within Dublin), Ireland. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also owned a part of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons is the 2nd daughter from Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons rounded out this amazing family. Maureen was a great athlete and was a gruelling athlete in sports when she was a young. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural aptitude to perform. She was the recipient of nearly all Feis prizes for her own nation's theatre and drama proved the fact that she was a natural performer. As she reached the age of 14 the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dream in classical theater and singing opera.
